Gorbahn Professional Alternative Resources is proud to support the development of inclusive communities through real estate, consulting, and advising.
Learn More ↓Our mission is to provide stable, accessible, and well-managed real estate solutions that support individuals in securing and maintaining quality living environments. With a commitment to fairness, inclusivity, and respect, we facilitate housing opportunities that empower individuals to live with dignity and independence.
While our role has evolved, our dedication to fostering safe and supportive communities remains unchanged. Through responsible property management, thoughtful leasing solutions, and strategic advising, we continue to uphold our values of stability, accessibility, and respect for every individual we serve.
Gorbahn Professional Alternative Resources was founded in September 1997 as Professional Alternative Resources (PAR), offering employment support services in Smithers for adults with disabilities. Initially focused on job training and placement, PAR established Instant Replay Sports, a second-hand sports store, to provide flexible vocational training and meaningful employment.
In 1998, the organization expanded into residential services, opening a group home in the Silverking Subdivision. Over the years, it grew to serve additional residents and achieved CARF Canada accreditation in 2004, recognizing its high standards of care. By 2017, GPAR had added a second home in Smithers, followed by a third home, G3, in 2020.
Beyond its own operations, GPAR played a key role in the community. In 2007, its CEO helped establish HIGH ROAD Services Society and led its growth while also serving as Executive Director of Dik Tiy Housing Society, expanding affordable housing options for seniors and adults with developmental disabilities. In 2019, he stepped away from these roles to focus solely on GPAR.
In June 2024, after 27 years of service, Gorbahn Professional Alternative Resources turned its day-to-day operations over to AiMHi of Prince George. Today, GPAR focuses on leasing its properties for ongoing services and providing financing and advisory solutions to support businesses and individuals in acquiring and operating their own properties. While its role has evolved, the organization remains committed to fostering stability and opportunities within the community.
Over the years, I have learned many lessons. Key among them is that there is no one right way, and no final answer when it comes to the task of supporting individuals with developmental disabilities in our community. We know and expect that we will continue to change our ideas and our practices as we learn more. We are committed to excellence in these endeavours.Dana Gorbahn, Founder and CEO
